Straight Flex Wheel (4" OD x 1" WD, 1-1/8" ID, 40A)
Flex Wheels are for use with intakes, conveyor systems and shooters.
Flex Wheels are made of a super tough custom blend of silicone rubber - different than any other flexible or compliant wheel used by VRC teams. Both VRC-Compatible wheel diameters are offered in 3 different durometers: the super soft 30A in light gray, the medium hardness 40A in dark gray and the hardest 60A in black. The varying hardnesses can be used to change the traction and compliance of your mechanism.
Note 1: VersaHex Adapters must be used with 1.625" and 2" OD Flex Wheels to be compatible with VEX V5 Shafts. 3" and 4" OD Flex Wheels must use VersaHubs and VersaHex Adapters.
Note 2: 5" Flex Wheels are not legal for use in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition.
Note 3: 45A Durometer Flex Wheels were re-labeled to 40A to more accurately match their durometer. Any "45A" VEX Flex Wheel is still legal for use in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition.
3” And 4” Flex Wheel Assembly
The two larger sizes of Flex Wheels, 3” and 4”, require four accessory parts in order to be compatible with a V5 ¼” High Strength Square Shaft.
An additional two inserts can be used to make these wheels compatible with a ⅛” Square Shaft.
See the diagrams below to help understand which parts are necessary to use the 3” and 4” Flex Wheels on your robot.
Optionally, VersaHubs can be retained to Flex Wheels using standard V5 hardware (note that this does not replace the use of the adapters described in this article, but can provide some additional stability if needed). Long screws can be used as through-bolts with nuts on the other side, or ¼” standoffs can be pressed into the bolt circles inside of the 3” and 4” Flex wheels to allow shorter screws to capture the Plastic VersaHubs on both sides of the wheel.
